Candidates urgently required to stand in local elections on 2nd May 2019

Upcoming Local Elections in England and Northern Ireland

UKIP now have over 1000 vetted and approved candidates ready to stand in upcoming local elections in England and Northern Ireland, but we need many more members to come forward.

For UKIP to achieve a Party Political Broadcast, each branch needs to be able to fill a minimum of 50% of their council seats i.e. if there are 40 seats to be filled, UKIP needs to have at least 20 candidates.

Members frequently ask “How can I help UKIP?”. The answer is “You can give your name as a paper candidate”, thereby giving everyone in the country the option to vote for a UKIP candidate on the ballot paper.

There is a fairly straightforward process of vetting and the branch will do everything they can to support suitable candidates, including those people who may never have been politically active, or considered standing for office before.

There are a series of Town and Borough Council Briefings due to be held locally soon for prospective candidates, so if you are a UKIP member and are interested in finding out more, please do get in touch with us as soon as possible via email:

(NB: Current policy is that you cannot join UKIP or stand as a candidate if you have ever been a member of a proscribed organisation or currently occupy a public or civil employment position that prohibits such due to the expectation of political impartiality.)

If you are not currently in a position to put yourself forward as a candidate in elections, there are plenty of other ways in which you can become involved – for example, leafleting, helping out with information stands, fundraising, donations, talking to members of the public etc.

Thank you for your interest and support. It is appreciated.
